All these famous women have launched their own underwear labels – and with the LoveKylie range to go nationwide in August – celebrity smalls have never been so big.

“These are three main trends. The strongest one by far being the Hollywood starlet type of look, with lots of satin, silks, ruffles, ribbons and real sexy mesh.

“There is a real feminine feel to the season and satin is really the big story. In terms of silks you are talking very rich deep reds. Think Liz Taylor in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof. It is very 50s and very sexy.

“One of the other trends that is coming through very strongly is sort of Japanese-style chinoserie print. Underwear with oriental style prints – like Japanese prints you get on crockery.

“The third trend we call baroque. This is underwear with really, really rich embroideries. It is tasteful without being over the top.”

Knickers are becoming increasingly flamboyant with chains and peep-holes on the back of the briefs.

She says: “What is interesting is autumn is usually dominated by blacks and burgundies but, possibly for the first tie, this autumn and winter pastels have been incredibly successful.

“They are moving on to peachy pinks, dusky pinks, turquoise and duck egg blue. Another big colour story is the return of chocolate, which probably looks best when it’s teamed up with pink.

“There is also quite a bit of metallic, as in golds, silvers and sheens and also lurex thread which gives a metallic look.
